Washing & Care Instructions

MORA products are very versatile and offer many options when it comes time to clean them, but like all things, following a few simple steps can mean getting many more years of enjoyment out of your products. Please remember to NEVER wring the blankets, NEVER use a drying programme or tumble-dryer and NEVER leave the blankets in the sun to dry – always dry in a shaded area or in open air for faster drying. Spread the blanket out on a clean surface to dry. It can also be hung on an indoor clothes line or on a traditional outdoor clothes line however avoid exposure to sunlight. Once dry, it is best to hold both ends and shake/flick gently through the air a few times to untangle the pile and give the blanket its initial feel (this works best with 2 people holding either end). Washing a blanket or quilt is not a process that should be carried out frequently. In general, airing them, avoiding the accumulation of dust and always keeping them dry will be enough as far as care and cleaning are concerned however, for different reasons the blanket will sometimes need to be washed. When this occurs, this section offers tips and recommendations.

Washing by hand (most gentle method):

If the blankets are too large for your washing machine, washing by hand is recommended. Place the blanket in a large container (or a bath or sink) with lukewarm water, with or without mild soap or washing detergent for delicate clothes that is appropriate for this type of textile. Gently move the blanket or quilt in the water and leave it to soak. You can repeat this several times and then rinse with abundant clean water. Leave it to drain in the sink.

Machine wash:

If the size of the blanket allows, you can machine wash on a cold water setting using a gentle programme for delicate clothes on a slow cycle with or without a mild detergent that is appropriate for this type of textile. Take special care with spinning speed. Make sure that it is a slow and gentle spin to take the excess moisture out of the blanket or quilt only slightly and then remove and dry in a shaded area.

Vacuum:

If time is short, the blanket can be lightly subjected to a suction head using only the vacuum suction. DO NOT use combs, brush-heads and other accessories  as they can damage the pile/hair/fur of the blanket. It is recommended to use the reduced suction functionality of the vacuum cleaner when doing this (usually a vent or pull lever on the vacuum handle).

Dry cleaning:

This a convenient option and perfectly valid for cleaning our blankets. Cleaning professionals should use Perchloroethylene and mineral solvents. They should also use a gentle cleaning programme and NEVER dry the blanket or quilt in a tumble-dryer.

HOW TO CLEAN STAINS

If you spill any liquid or product on the blanket, clean it off immediately to avoid or reduce permanent damage.

WATER

If the blanket isn’t too wet and the water is clean, dry it quickly with a paper towel and leave the blanket to dry on its own. If the blanket is soaked with dirty water, wash it as normal.

COFFEE, TEA, WINE AND OTHER WATER-BASED STAINS

Dry the stain with a paper towel then clean the affected area with a sponge dampened with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% warm water. Do not rub it too hard. It is then recommended to wash it as normal.

OIL-BASED PAINT

Dry the stain with an absorbent paper towel. Gently clean the stain with a cloth dipped in turpentine. Once the paint has been diluted, dab the affected area with a damp cloth and liquid soap appropriate for delicate clothing. Make sure the room is well ventilated. Finally, wash the blanket as normal.

GREASE-BASED STAINS

Dry the stain with an absorbent paper towel. Apply soft touches with a cloth moistened with liquid soap for delicate items. Finally, wash the blanket as normal.
